Christmas

Jeff arrived in Frankfurt Dec 23.  Dec 23 Kristin took Carmen, Max and us to Sensapolis - a very cool indoor kids amusement park.  Dec 24 we went to the Stuttgart circus and the 25th was Christmas Day.  We called a family - my parents were still flying back from New Zealand so we 'what's apped' as they found wifi.  We had a great video chat with my brother and his family and reminisced about our childhood vacations in Germany/Austria.  We also chatted with both of Jeff's parents.  Santa found us - and was good to the girls this year.  Here are a few photos.

Not your ugly sweater, from Kiki for Christmas - love them!  We opened them Dec 24 as a special gift that gets to be opened before Christmas Day.  The girls thought that in Germany they should be allowed to do as the Germans and open all gifts on Dec. 24.  Even Santa arrives in Germany Dec. 24.

the circus was awesome with acts and stunts I've never seen before.  we were amazed that people could run and jump standing up on horse without a springboard or assistance!  it was incredible as were the acrobatics and 10 motorcyclists in a metal ball.  the stage was small so had there been a miss-up we would have seen it all....

thanks Aunt Sherri - there were also lots of cute outfits and clothes from Nana and Gregg.  Nana is extremely stylish and the girls always look forward to seeing what's in the large bags of clothes that gives them.

Kristin found an English Christmas Day mass service which was preceded with 30 minutes of caroling.  We all enjoyed it and the building was beautiful, despite no heat inside.  :-)

Christmas Dinner - Kristin cooked turkey schnitzel, spatzel noodle and we had a nice salad.  The poppers had jokes and funny lip cards we played with after dinner.

Getting Ready for Christmas in Germany

We skipped the last day of school and headed to Germany for the holidays to visit Aunt Kiki.  The first week was spent relaxing, visiting Christmas markets, baking cookies, and doing girl things before Jeff got there.  Jeff's work and school schedule shortened his holiday time.  Here are a few pics of the wonderful Christmas sights in Germany and fun times with Aunt Kiki.
Kristin bought the girls Haribo Advent Calendars and me a Lindt Chocolate one - yum and fun!  Arriving Dec 15 meant we had a sugar boost as we caught up.  :-)

Girls got to put up and decorate the tree.  We picked out a few more ornaments at the various Christmas markets we visited, including a pickle (which apparently none of Kiki's German friends know the 'German' tradition of finding the hidden pickle on the tree) and Moose which is special to Kristin.

a common sight of both girls piled in with Kiki - going through jewelry, make-up, socks and scarves, or watching Netflix... and being jet lagged this could start at 4 AM and not end until midnight!

first day it snowed - which is actually uncommon - and we walked to one of the nearby bakeries.  There are bakeries everywhere in Germany and Kristin's small town has a few, plus at least 5 hair salons!

not sure how many 'bretzls' we had on this trip... but it was a lot!!  and they never disappoint.  Girls were good at saying - foompf or Sieben bretzl danka!

Kristin's friend Andrea came over to teach the girls a simple German cookie to bake.  Glad it was simple as it required mixing by hand, separating egg yolks and shaving butter to use (vice heating it up in the microwave!)  - cookies turned out great!

I think this is Tubingen, but it could be Esslingen - and I'm not even sure those are the exact names either! Cute German town - of which there are a lot.

Stuttgart Christmas Market

as part of the girls Christmas present, Kristin bought them bracelets that the girls each designed.  They picked out 3 beads and a leather strap.  Bella's has unicorns, Morgan's is turquoise and I got one too - love it!

my parents had a small one of these with the Nativity scene and candles I remember putting out every year

constant giggles and energy!

Kristin's friend Carmen and her son Max who came over to decorate gingerbread ornaments  - the girls enjoyed playing uno with him

Getting Ready for Christmas in Japan

The Christmas tree went up just after Thanksgiving and the girls decorated cookies. The girls convinced me and my parents allowed them to open a few gifts before leaving for Germany.  Flip sequin is their fav - super stylish outfits!  Grandma did a great job as usual keeping them trendy.
