Art

The Madman Monk who lived in the 15th Century passed on his spiritual teachings through physical contact to women (married and single) and because of his virility the phalis symbol became seen as a symbol of power, which is now painted on a lot of houses and buildings.  Of course, we thought this was funny and couldn't pass up a photo!

While we weren't in Bhutan to see any famous festivals (or Rhodendron flowers everywhere) we did see a cultural show and I managed to spot a quirky red flower in bloom on a drive near a high pass.  Here are photos from our own private show - masked dancers, horns, and singing.    The drums and horns in the photos are the same ones the monks used inside the temples for their chanting and rituals.
