Morgan's 1st Ocean Water Swim Race!
Morgan placed first in her first open water swim race and we are so proud of her. I think she impressed herself by how strong she is and a good racer. It was a 500 meter and she got a first place medal for the 18-year old and younger group, and 2nd overall. She did a great job sighting, swimming tight turns around the buoys and around people. She was calm, started out strong, and then accelerated for the last half.
Right after we both swam the 500 meter, I swam the 3000 meter. Almost immediately there was a guy drafting off my right that I could tell was hanging out waiting to pass. He kept me moving, and in the end I did beat him. I came in first for the women and 3rd overall.
The race was in Amakusa, Kumamoto. We drove down past Nagasaki and took a ferry across. The girls loved it and Bella is excited to tell he friends. We stayed at an Air B&B campground right on the water. It was cute and had coffee in the vending machine for our early morning start!
The race started with open ceremonies, where they proceeded to give us all plastic bags for us to do a beach cleanup. The beach was already clean, but it was nice to start with environmental awareness.
Here are some photos.
